What is Indoor Rockclimbing?

Indoor rockclimbing is a simulated indoor rock wall with fixtures (hand holds) attached to the wall to aid in the climbers ascent. The climber is in a harness secured to the rope, which is controlled by a breaking devices, and you the belayer. The climber’s objective is to reach the top of the climb using only selected holds. Once you get to the top there is only 1 way down, literally…this is referred to as abseiling or repelling. This can be controlled by yourself or some else and is usually half the fun… Here at the Edge we have a purpose build tower specially designed for beginner’s right through to the extreme adrenalin junkies…whether your abseiling or rap jumping (face forward) there is nothing that matches the rush of repelling from 6 stories high...

Who does it?

All ages can climb and abseil, from as young as 2 (our youngest) right up to 88 years (Currently the Edge’s oldest ever climber).

Do I have to be a climber to be able to climb and abseil?

No. Anyone can climb and abseil, there is no experience needed! You are trained by professional instructors until you feel competent.

How high can you climb?

Indoors, the average wall range is from 6 to 12 metres ( The Edge Adventure centre is 18 ½ metres in height) you only have to climb as high as wish, when your ready to come down, let your belay know, and down you come, it is as simple as that…

What are the benefits?

Climbing is a fun way to exercise and have a great time doing it. It can improve flexibility, muscle endurance, strength, and is a great way to improve overall fitness without the boredom of a gym. It works all muscle groups resulting in a total body work out. Perfect for cross training. Check out our Fitness Club Tuesday’s from 6pm to 7pm.

Is it safe?

The most common question asked of our staff, and the answer is NO IT IS NOT SAFE. There are inherent risks involved with indoor adventure; hence our qualified instructors, extensive safety instruction, and quality inspected safety equipment. All of which set the bench mark for our industry of which we have maintained for over 10 years. Remember this is serious fun…
